The Belfast Bay Beacon is currently a convenient landing place for birds and a small destination for kayakers who want a closer look at the abandoned light. The PenBay Pilot has a great article, The legacy of Steele’s Ledge Light about this light, written by Erica Thoms.
The Belfast Bay Beacon Organization has the aspiration to bring back the light to the harbor and community, as a tribute to all of the people of Belfast who continue to build and grow this beautiful visitor destination and make Belfast Maine their home.
Our first goal is to determine who owns the small outcrop and the existing granite structure and second, to gain legal access to it and evaluate its restoration potential. Please contact us if you have any information that will facilitate this project.
